Dont get tricked by fake reviews on amazon
« on: February 21, 2017, 08:09:05 PM »
Many companies give free or significantly discounted items on amazon in exchange for a positive review on Amazon.

Don't be fooled...use fakespot.com to verify the reviews.

For example, this recent post on DDF http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=73829.0 has an F rating for its reviews
I wonder how many miles I've scrolled with my finger

amazon recently banned this. If companies do give free products to reviewers, the company will be shut down. so I think it's safe to assume that all reviews are more or less legit reviews.

There's other ways

as an amazon reviewer, I l get lots of emails asking for reviews in exchange for free or discounted junk. Even after they changed the rule. None of it is worth it and i almost never take them up for their offers even before they changed the rule.

Obviously the closer you are to #1 the better the offers are
https://www.amazon.com/review/top-reviewers/ref=cm_cr_tr_link_1

TimT is right..........I even got an email saying buy at reg price on amazon, leave a "fair" review and they will pre-credit my paypal account  People are always figuring out new "work-arounds". Most of the emails are from china and lots for books.
I don't get involved, but I wonder how these guys don't get shut down.

Fakespot is not always accurate. Common sense always comes in handy. Always look at the negative reviews.

I used to be an amazon reviewer but then amazon found out I was getting all these products for free and they shut down my account. they banned me from reviewing all products.

Not to be pedantic, but it's not that it's no longer necessary, but no longer allowed.

The point is its now not allowed to give away products expressly for reviews. You can, however, give away products and ask for a review.

The downside is sites like Fakespot will likely now be unable to discern paid reviews as they won't have the disclaimer.

Fakespot isn't good. Just read the negative reviews and the verified positive reviews. Usually pretty easy to spot the shills. Worth noting that if a company runs a cheap sale the reviews won't be verified, so not necessarily is it a fake review.

Right, so exactly as I said. You can still give away products, and then ask nicely for a review, but you cannot make that a condition for receiving the product.
There are plenty of review groups (e.g. Giveaway Service) which still run like they used to, except now they say leaving a review is optional, even though it is "understood" that you are expected to leave one.
Then there are those that give away products for reviews, against Amazon's TOS. The difference now is that sites like Fakespot can't weed them out.

There are fewer and fewer because Amazon will shut you down!

is there a website similar to amazon that doesn't have these rules? or 3rd party companies that I can review on their actual site?
