Just making sure I understand the Q. Your assumption that you would get the bonus on a points redemption is based on the following 2 points:

1. Amex will initially provide 4x bonus on booking since they first charge the flight as if it was a paid flight
2. Once they credit back the cost of the flight they will not claw back the points.

Seems unlikely.

Thanks for your analysis, but you do get 4x by paying with the personal platinum card, ergo it may also work with today's new benefit.

Amex has said that it will not work, we'll see if that holds true for either or both of the cards.

Not sure what the connection is - you're not paying for the flight, you're redeeming points.

Semantics. I find it highly doubtful that it will work. Although I wouldn't have thought that ppl would get the 50% rebate on flights that they subsequently cancelled...

I'm not sure where you're coming from, logically you're right that it shouldn't work but we already know that it worked with the personal plat until now, the question is if it will work with the BP and continue to work with the plat.

Personal plat doesn't have 50% redemption option - you're saying ppl are redeeming the points at 1 cent value and receiving 4x points? Didn't know that. Interesting that someone tried that in the first place, horrible use of points at 1 cent value without the 4x kickback...

The kickback doesn't require use of the card.
