I don't think asher ever sleeps

I don't usually sleep much, this week has been extra bad though. I think I've averaged 3.5 hours every 24 hours since Shabbos. As you guys can probably imagine, I'm really looking forward to Shabbos :)

(more on that in my next post)

I'm not saying these features are exclusive to BBM
Good thing you had this disclaimer, otherwise I'm sure you would've been "attacked" by a buncha people maybe even including myself ;D).
The only thing that's unique about BBM is the amount of users it has, and although there are similar or better messaging apps out there, most of them are lacking actual commonality.

Actually, I think it's the way it's integrated into the BB experience that's unique.

Like, try it and you'll see. BBs are designed for text-based communication, and they excel at that (some would add: and only that).

As I mentioned earlier on this thread, I don't own a BB. The day I returned my 3 week old 8530 was indeed a very blessed day in my cell/phone history.

I guess different things work for different people. Reality is I've had different smartphones and I still appreciate my BB for what it is.

Well, they better get a move on things if they don't want to be considered "prehistoric". No offense to you.

Agreed. They got a move on things already, but not fast enough. Once their QNX-based OS launches I think things will start looking better, if they still have any marketshare/mindshare left.

You're the one with txt in your DDF username...

I am used to their interface/os/eco-system, and the way they have everything packaged/integrated works better for me than anything else.

Certainly better than anything I can get without paying Sprint's rip-off $10 smartphone tax.

Anyone try using GoogleTalk on their phones? How does it compare to BBM?

I imagine it probably uses more resources, at least on my BB.

Google talk on BB works ok, I don't suffer from the resources.

By the way, does anyone know a program for BB that allows me to call via wifi? Very important when in roaming.

I've been told to install tring-me. Still didn't manage to make one call with it.

T-Mobile USA had a feature called UMA/Hotspot@Home on some of their phones, including Blackberries, that allows you to call via wifi and use your minutes bucket. It's pretty amazing, as it even works internationally. They may have discontinued this service for new customers though, surprisingly, there wasn't much interest in it.

According to them "In WiFi areas and over 3G/EDGE IM+ Talk allows to make free VoIP calls in half-duplex mode, similar to a walkie-talkie." Were you able to use for SIP like a regular phone?
