The speed limit on the palisades is just like the no parking within 15 feet of the fire hydrants 25 MPH in Brooklyn. They are here to make money, & not for your safety.
Though in Brooklyn they actually installed cash registers to automatically collect the loot (aka cameras).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I once spoke to Simcha Felder about it not long after it was implemented and he seemed furious. But I can hear why we don't want people going so fast on residential streets.

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with safety and EVERYTHING to do with generating revenue. Where they really care about safety they install speed bumps! 25 MPH speed limit on a road like Ocean Parkway makes no sense.

I understand that on local streets 25MPH is good, but on main streets with 3 lanes each way (ex. Ocean parkway) at 2am when it's empty? ? ?

Yes. And so is Atlantic Avenue (along with most of the city).

Maybe we should start a petition somewhere to get the speed limit changed?

I think it's insane that the speed limit is 50MPH on a highway where you barely have traffic, & most of the times you feel like it should be a 60-65MPH zone (& be able to drive 70-75MPH).

The speed limit on the palisades is just like the no parking within 15 feet of the fire hydrants in Brooklyn. They are here to make money, & not for your safety.
...I once heard something that it was built as a private road and in the bylaws there's something about it never being changed...

It was actually changed from 40 to 50 many years ago.

It's about time that they should implement digital speed limits signs, changing depending on the weather & traffic conditions.

Driving on 60MPH in a 65MPH zone on a snowy day with a road full of cars is legal. While driving 26MPH in a 25MPH zone on a dry day with no cars in sight, is illegal & you can get fined????? This doesn't make sense!!!!

Don't know if it true, but I was told once that the speed limits on highways is based on the safety of driving 15mph over the limit. From that perspective doing 70 on the Palisades isn't like 70 on the Garden state Pkwy

Reckless driving is always illegal. Even if below the speed limit,  if you're driving 60 in snow,  you could get a ticket

True. Thanks to nonexistent lighting, they are barely visible in the median, but Waze did save me once late at night. Never saw the cop, but the passenger did.
