"Passengers were told at the gate that the flight was overbooked and United, offering $400 and a hotel stay, was looking for one volunteer to take another flight to Louisville at 3 p.m. Monday. Passengers were allowed to board the flight, Bridges said, and once the flight was filled those on the plane were told that four people needed to give up their seats to stand-by United employees that needed to be in Louisville on Monday for a flight. Passengers were told that the flight would not take off until the United crew had seats, Bridges said, and the offer was increased to $800, but no one volunteered."

Better angle of the Air Marshals pulling him from his seat and his bloodied mouth as he's dragged down the isle.

While from a PR angle, this is absolutely unacceptable, from a legal standpoint, they have the right to remove anyone from the plane if a justifiable reason comes up. Once they choose you to be removed, just cooperate instead of screaming like a 3 year old. Milk them for compensation after the fact.

I'd guess their is a piece of the story missing. Something doesn't feel right.
I'm not who you think I am.

True, but I'm sure not everyone is as aware of airline compensation rules as we are here. Plus if he was in fact a doctor, what do you think he values more-the airline compensation or the lives and wellbeing of his patients?

Agreed, but if I was forcefully removed from a flight, even with 0 knowledge of compensation practices, I'd still assume I can squeeze them for a boatload if they're willing to offer $800 and a hotel to volunteers...I agree his time may have been more valuable, which is why he may not have volunteered, but once he was chosen, it was the equivalent of his flight being canceled. He no longer has the option to decide which is more valuable.

He made the news, they'll probably crawl back to him and offer him enough to shut this all down.

Why didn't they offer more before forcing people to leave? I'm sure someone would have volunteered for the right price.

Exactly. I'm not sure how much he could've gotten if he walked off the plane as once they removed him involuntarily, what do they have to gain by compensating him?

Well, with the way the media is portraying it, regardless of the facts people think united owes him.
