Unofficial airline weight limits
« on: April 24, 2017, 10:37:35 AM »
I'm curious to see how much overweight bags people can get away with by airline. Obviously a YMMV, but would be helpful to know.

Delta: 51 lbs and skycap didn't make me pay extra, though she did mark it as heavy.
El Al: 26 kgs no problem, 9 kg carry-on also no problem (I believe they officially don't give issues until 2 over)

a lot of these vary by the person, skycap individual, or airport and not necessarily by the airline as a whole in my experience.

+1 to YMMV, though hiring and tipping a SkyCap goes a long way.

$20 up front to a skycap has never failed. Somehow it makes the scale break...

Depending on where you're going/airline for $25 you can take a whole suitcase.  :D

Doesn't everyone just put one wheel of the suit case off the scale when it's overweight?

that hasn't worked for me in years!
check in person always leans over to make sure the whole luggage is on the scale...

Always works IME. Ill give more when theres a bunch of overweight bags. Far less than the airline charge.

The discussions is when overweight and Im not aware of any airline that charges $25 for overweight. Usually its a multiple of 2-4x $25.

In YYZ traveling to USA, weighing is done by the customs machine. Won't let it through if it's overweight.
Rejected 55 pounds
Let through 52.5 pounds
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Completely YMMV, and moreso among individual agents than people IME.
