When creating a logo there is a lot that goes into it.

From what I gather the most important thing is creating a logo that someone glances at and right away recognizes the brand.

Think of the logos you recognize most, they are usually very clear and simple. Think of the Facebook F, or the twitter bird, etc.

The deals revealed logo had a lot going on and wasn't so easy to understand it's meaning etc. So we pursued some new ideas.

These are 2 contenders right now.

Personally I think the first logo is great and hits all the right tones for me. It is very clean, sharp, and easy to recognize, it's shows excitement with the exclamation mark, has a joyful fun feel to it (especially with it being a winky face when turned sideways), and overall I just like the feel of it. Also it gives a nice contrast to the box design of the new site. The second logo I think when shrunk down, a lot of it will get lost, and isn't as easily recognizable.

But please let us know your thoughts.

2nd logo looks like a bad version of Pinterest.

Definitely the first. The second one wouldn't mean anything to you unless you're already familiar with DD and even if it did pique interest you wouldn't know where to go!

The first one reminded me of the duncan donuts logo at first glance, but I think I still like the 1st one better

seeing a winky face is a bit farfetched but I agree that the first one is better and pinterest was my first thought as well

First one fo sho. Adgree that the second one looks like Pintrest.

Although I will say that it's a pity to not capitalize on the two Ds; you yourself described DansDeals as "DD" in the thread title. I think that is very much part of the site's identity.

I hear how you can be reminded because they both have a D in it, but the logos themselves I don't think they are too similar

The winky face is actually something I saw after it was designed, unintentional I believe. That's why I put that in parenthesis.

Then no matter how it's spun it looks like Dunkin Donuts or PayPal etc

Tried a bunch of those and they weren't as original from what I saw. Also the one D makes it clear and easy to recognize faster than 2 D's. But ya that was part of the early discussions, I felt that way as well.

I think it's also much more common among ddf'ers to refer to it as DD and DDF. Hopefully this logo will allow for some variations for forums and other tuned versions of it.

I second that.

I also think second one reminds of Pinterest, and for some reason the first does remind of Dunkin Donuts. I am not sure why, it might be the aspect ratio, the rounded edges, but there's something there that I can't pinpoint that made me think Dunkin Donuts the first second I saw it.

I think if enough thought/effort is put into it, a double D design could be devised that is truly unique and doesn't remind of DunkinDonuts, PayPal or any other famous brand.

Look at the D's in the following links as a starting reference point D D

Another alternative would be to use one uppercase and one lowercase D in some kind of combination, or possibly add a symbol such as @ (@DD)

Of these 2, the first I think is better. But I think you need another D somewhere.
