$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

i used it to fight a 475 apple charge on repairs for my laptop- so far they have not asked me to send in the repairs  ;D

i used it for a stolen camera lens and camera sent in a copy po report and the credit me back what i paid for the gear in 2008

This seems to have turned into a thread of Warranty protection, Purchase protection, and dispute (chargeback) resolution...

I was really just curious about other experiences with return protection.  I've always had to return the items in the past but this was the first time I didnt.

i bought a laptop in january on a spg consumer, and i've had a couple problems with it and i sent it in to lenovo twice and they haven't fixed it.
i want to contact amex about this, but under what benefit am i claiming? purchase, return or warranty?
also what can i expect from them? a refund?

i just used return protection on spg consumer card- on a pair of kids shoes. i bought from a site that does not allow returns, and i called them within 2 days they credited back the money and never asked for the item back.

AMEX warranty won't kick in until the Lenovo warranty ends.
but lenovo won't help me, they told me they can't find the problem(s)!
all they can offer me is to sens it in again, which is useless if they are not finding the problems!

but the laptop remains faulty.

is there any other benefit from SPG card that i can cash in on? it was ordered on 12/28/10

I bought it on the SPG consumer card. would i be able to send it in and get my money back so i can buy a new laptop? i've never done this before...

Go for it! But with something as minor as the mic they might offer to just fix that prt. Perhaps you should wait until it's something more serious.

I called amex last night because my wife's PC wouldnt turn on- its 1 month before the 2nd year is up (original warranty was 1 year).
Total for the PC was about $300. They sent me an email just now saying they refunded the entire thing. They didnt even ask for any docs.

AMEX's protections are 1000x better than the other companies.  Shame they don't offer price protection any more.
