$300 per item, 1K per card per year. So if you have an SPG card and a PRG card you'll only have 2k of total RP coverage, regardless of how many AUs you have on each card.

If you are unsure if an item qualifies for RP, then instead of asking for opinions here (slightly better than asking medical advice on facebook mind you), PUTPAC and ask the RP reps. You don't need to give your name or card info, just say you have an item or you will be buying an item and the store has a crappy return policy and want to make sure if there is a problem you can return it.

or
Return Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/return This is for when, in the first 3 months, the original seller won't accept a return, and the product is still in its original packaging/labels are still attached.
Purchase Protection:  www.americanexpress.com/purchase This is for when, in the first 3 months, a purchase is lost, stolen, or broken.
Extended Warranty: www.americanexpress.com/warranty This covers only what the original warranty covers and extends it for up to 1 year.

Amex can approve RP claims even after the card is closed/cancelled, though YMMV.

Just looked at the t&c. May be targeted, and (obviously) have to pay with PayPal to qualify

Yup, it's not targeted but you need to have paid via paypal so i'm outa luck  :(

Purchased a youth sport item through Amazon from a 3rd party seller. It didn't fit. Too big. Returned it but seller charged restocking fee of $10 and I paid shipping back to them at a cost of $10. Item cost was $40.

I asked Amex to help with the $10 restocking fee only.

They credited the original total purchase price.

Purchased hat with one amex card and seller is refunding cost and his shipping costs but will not refund my return shipping costs.  I paid shipping costs with another amex card anyway I can get my return shipping costs refunded?

Shipping is excluded. You can putpac but I doubt it'd help.

I purchased a few items on one order, which came out to $1,000. can I make separate claims and get $300 on each claim?

You can put it all in one claim, you'll get up to $300 per item.

It's actually a valid question. It happens to be that they'll end up splitting it up when they pay you because they can only pay out up to $300 per claim so they create a new claim number and you'll get multiple the refund in multiple parts. You can put everything in one claim when you're doing it out though as long as it's on one receipt, they'll do the rest.
