so thank you to everyone for all your help -

i called up the location and they said they can bring in a pickup truck, it was a ford f150 - afterwards i called pc reservations again and they said theres no pickup trucks in oklahoma, but i called the location to confirm, they said they have it in...

now the thing is... its VERY expensive -

any ideas to get the price down? im ending up keeping it till monday, 5 days - it doesnt look like there are any cupons that cover higher than premium...

and i checked the other locations, no ones any cheaper...

you think i can ask them to charge me as if i had reserved two classes lower b/c they cant upgrade me at all, i need a pickup truck...

So lets take a step back to page #4. The link that is given there to become Avis PC tells you to either make a new wizard number or if you already have one, to call a certain number. Being that I already have a Wizard #, I called this lady and she has a daily list that is sent to her from Continental which she refers to when someone calls and asks for the PC upgrade. So unless you really are a Continental PC member, DON'T CALL HER. You're wasting your time.

I guess this link will only work if you create a new Wizard # (which sucks, especially because I now have to order a new Avis Charge Card - my account is direct billing).

If anyone has any more info or insight please let me know, or if there is a quick way to become a Continental PC that would work too !

Thanks

Just some tips for Avis which helped me on this last rental.

1. Check the rates on EVERY location in your area and make a reservation with the cheapest one. Then call the location you really want to rent from and ask them to match the rate since you would rather rent from them. It might help if the original rental had the car being rented from the cheaper location and being returned to the one you really want it from (usually you will still get that low rate even though the return is different). When I did that here, ORD had no problem matching the rate, even though it was over $200 cheaper than what they were currently offering. It could be because I'm PC. I don't know.

2. When you call to make a res, call PC reservations (800-651-2847) and ask the agent to call the location while you wait on hold to request the double-upgrade for you, or even more than that. I reserved a full size which bring me to a specialty with a double upgrade. The thing is they normally only upgrade to a premium even if that's only a single upgrade. They are told not to upgrade above that. I had the agent call the location and the manager there guaranteed me a luxury. Sweet.

3. If you have problems with a rate, it's usually best to wait and call customer service after the rental is over. Of course you may get screwed, but the few times I did it, they helped me out. Whether if it was when I got charged for some fuel, or if the total ended up more than I thought it would be, they helped me out.

4. It may be worth it to call the Chairman's Club desk (even if you are not CC) and ask them to help you with a special-needs reservation (like manually adjusting the rate). The agents there have much more leeway and I've never had them tell me "Sorry sir, you are a PC member, not a CC. I'll have to transfer you". In fact, I once got them to adjust a one-way rental for me from JAC airport to SLC to be the standard rate which normally comes with no miles (40 cents per mile), and change it to unlimited miles, which would have been $200 more expensive.

I hope these tips help some of you guys, but remember, don't abuse your privileges, and don't make a Chillul Hashem.

Yes, you mention some good ideas. But don't forget, if you do call all the area Avis' and then get the airport to match (maybe because they are a easier location for you to pick up at), be advised, there are more charges and fee's when picking up from there, so even if the airport is willing to match the actual price per day quote, DON'T FORGET the actual airport fees which might be more then you saved !

Thanks for the tips !

create a new wizard number then call up and say you have 2 of them and just switch the corprate and have them put the charge card on file for the pres club one.

With PC they will bring in a car from another location for you.
Not garanteed,

I tried in Houston to have the airport match the rate of a local location and they said there was nothing to talk about even though I told them I would be renting a car every week for approx 28 hours and paying for 2 full days, I also told them my rate by Thriffty which is the same rate as the local Avis location and they were still not willing to match it.

Wow howd you pull of getting a specialty car?
I didn't. I originally got a CTS which is considered a higher class of Luxury
The CTS is in a group E which is a specialty also known as a "Avis Cool Car"

sorry - i havent been on in a while, ive been very busy lately

so basically i mentioned the 2 class upgrade and maybe they can give me a discount instead, and the lady did, but only one class, i'm not sure why, i didnt want to be too pushy, she was very nice about it, but i'm not sure if she just did it b/c i asked for an upgrade (and maybe also b/c happened to be pc), meaning nothing to do w/ the double upgrade thing (if so, not a bad idea, downgrade the price instead of upgrading the car?)  - so anyways, it saved me $30, $59 instead of $89, not bad.

I was still thinking of calling up about the double upgrade, and that it took a half hour to get the car, and to tell them i found a beer can under the seat (maybe I should have expected it - a pickup truck in oklahoma...), see what I can get (like I said, ive been busy...)

and i ended up renting only one day - they said i can return it @ 11 even though i rented like 8, is that standard w/ pc? - and it was erev shabbos so i basically got 2 days for 1, for what i needed.

and thanks again for all your help everyone!

Here are some tips for rentals in Europe:

1. Try different country domains( avis.co.uk for UK, avis.de for Germany, etc). You will get different rates in different currencies. Choose the cheapest one.

2. Try an AWD for Europe for better rates( for example k444404)

3. Log in with your PC/ CC/ Preferred account after you get the best rate possible .

You should follow this order to avoid to get the best AWD ( not PC member) and also to keep the privileges of PC/CC.

k so i wanna get this straight cause its a little confusing following all the posts on this topic.
i go to the site and click on "click here to enroll",then scroll down to and click on "I want to enroll in preferred service"
plug in the information that they require from you and just wait for your president club card to arrive? is there anything after that that i need to do? whats the deal with changing the cc on file etc.
