Bicycle Shopping

As I gear up for the summer I had a great thought: Instead of dieting away my winter weight why not have some spring fun and bike around town? Kill two birds with one stone  8). But I read some Bike forums and people are verrrry critical of Costco's Bikes. Anyone have any experience with them? Is there a specific place recommend in NY?

Very interesting article about a frum guy who lost 50 pounds in 1 year - just from biking!!
