yeshiva/sem dorm supplies
« on: May 22, 2017, 12:46:32 PM »
I am surprised there is no thread for this - maybe you still have bambinos
but bambini grow up and off they go

Kid going to Israel. What's the best/cheapest way to get supplies for the dorm?
/pillows, blanket, comforter, linen set, sleeping bag, towels/
I understand that the best and the cheapest may be contradictory but the companies that deliver this stuff directly to the yeshiva seem to be overpriced.

saw some online discussion recommending Max Stock at 72 Jaffa Road

or you youngsters in the Holy Land how did you get your dorm/school supplies?

many thanks

Best is to find someone who was there the previous year and buy off them

Is very decently priced, and not more expensive than local stores and at times even cheaper.
Which is extremely surprising for an American company catering to Jews in Israel with parents in America.

Edit: Disregard, just checked it out again. Prices have gone up considerably, no longer anything special.

Our son is going for Elul Zman.
We have been buying stuff here and there. Towels from Macy's deals. They are throwaways (or giveaways) after he will be done with them. Linen will be old sets. Blankets and pillows will probably get from my supplier in Hungary to ship directly to him. We're in the business so its obviously cheaper. The blankets offered on that site are half the fill of what we sell and $100 more to boot. Very expensive.
I hope to send him premium class so he can take extra luggage etc. Pillows and blankets can be vacuum packed and shipped in small boxes ahead of time too.

Bought stuff at BB&B- they have bed in a bag. Used Space Savers to pack it up. I was able to send a suitcase with a family member. When they came home Pesach, they brought back the bulk of their stuff and brought back the rest in the summer. Then they used that stuff when they dormed for college.

If he flys on a carrier like Turkish who gives two suitcases, I found that it was enough space and weight for almost everything to be bought in America. I mainly stocked up on everything at Walmart, towels, bed in a bag...
Or why not try Target with free international shipping today? Maybe they'll ship a bedding set? (Keep it under the taxable amount.)
Sleeping bags and other dorm items can be bought in Israel for a decent price, from a store or off someone else.
I'm not who you think I am.

Booked my son in J so 2 bags, plus i found a reason to go along in J as well, so 2 more bags. We're taking everything. No need to overpay for American brands in Israel. Bodywash, shampoo, toothpaste, detergent, blanket, pillows, towels etc.

I guess two J tickets is more economical than paying for American brands in Israel.

He needed the J. He's 6'8" KA'H Difference between cattle and J in the way you start off a zman...

Total cost for one OW and one RT was ~$3,230.
100k MR +~$203 = ~$1600
58k BA Avios +~$62 = ~$610
52k M&M +$292 = ~$1020

Y direct was pricing at > $1,100 OW

Factor in the savings on additional bags, not having to buy items that I sell for a living and which are way more expensive in Israel, not having to deal with ElAl, experiencing 3 new products that I have never been on (IB A340, IB Real J A319 and LH A380 J), I say it was more economical...and more comfortable then ElAl, middle seat, Israeli attitude, cattle anytime.
