Using AA miles for booking hotels

Is it worth it to use AA miles to book a hotel room? Is it basically using AA miles as cash?

I often try to use my miles for flights and nothing is available, and I need a hotel room in Europe in august, so I'm thinking of using my AA miles for the hotel.

Generally, it is a terrible idea. I can't imagine you'd get more than 1cpp.
