Many people on eBay sell for example Delta "Platinum" Status for three months that can if you fulfill the requirements turn into a year-long Platinum status.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Delta-Platinum-Medallion-Status-/122480973637?hash=item1c846f5745:g:qXwAAOSwdjNZDKh~This is different than someone gifting their choice benefit gold status.
Anyone who is familiar obviously knows that these people (look how many just this person sold) are likely photoshopping for a status match.
Considering selling miles is also technically against the T&C, what's the argument for and against purchasing from one of these eBay sellers.
Is it an ethical question?
If one would never make a fake status as that would be clearly unethical (any arguments saying it isnt?) to match is paying someone on eBay who is clearly lying and saying it is legitimate and likely doing a status match in the customer's name, really just kidding oneself and just putting one more step in the process to make one feel its ok?
If we look at it as just against the T&C - is faking status if one doesn't do the 'deed' himself on the same level of selling miles? In terms of unethical etc.?
Let me know if this should be in the ethics thread?
