We stayed at El conquistador resort in the Las Casitas Villas. Place was quite, nice, fantastic service by the staff, amazing scenery and great rooms. We did not use points, so I dont have any information about that.
We took along prepared meals from Pomegranate and it worked out great. We did not get any kosher food in San Juan but the local Walmart had basics like cereals, chips etc.
There are a lot of attractions and things to do, beautiful beaches which you get to via ferry, hiking the El Yunque, atv rentals by the rainforest, and kayaking in the bio bay. We did some water sports like para sailing, jet skiing etc.
Trip was really great and would definitely recommend it

We did the same a few weeks ago. I thought the service and ambiance at Las Casitas was infinitely better than the main resort, which is just huge and nice to have access to. Everyone I've spoken with who has visited Las Casitas received an upgrade to a casita, which has a full kitchen, and living room/dining room. We did priceline name your own price at $237(5 star resort) for a weekend in February and were upgraded the day before check in. This resort is great value for families and couples, and mirrors some of the views you'd find on the lush Island of Kauai. Parking is free. Starbucks and Haagen daaz in the Main resort. South Casitas are more recently updated than the north casitas, but are a further walk from the resort facilities. 40 Mins from San Juan and close to Bio Bay and El yunque rainforest.

No.  Constant temperature year round. Though late August is hurricane season
