Dave Ramsey Financial Coach Live Training
« on: June 14, 2017, 09:52:06 AM »
Has anyone taken or know someone who took the Dave Ramsey Financial Coaching live classes. I'm trying to fond reviews on it but seems like there are not too many. Any serious insight would be appreciated.

Not many people on this forum are fans of Dave Ramsey's financial ideas.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

I think the first step will be to do some research into his financial philosophies. He takes an extreme position against debt. For some who have difficulty controlling themselves that may have a place because once they start they will never stop. On the other hand the prudent use of debt can be very beneficial.

You are missing the boat. He answered your question very clearly. If he doen't believe in the system that means he is of the opinion that you should not join it.

Thanks Aygart. I asked if anyone had a review on the course. Not his philosophies. I am well aware of what they are.

In that case you should know that in a forum where there is a focus on credit card use you will be unlikely to find people who would know or have a positive impression. That is also included in @David Smith's answer.

I understand. We are trying to help you but you are not interested in the help we are giving you. You are unlikely to get the type of "help" you are looking for here.

You'll probably do better on creditboards.com (although they generally aren't major fans either).

I think there's a way to apply the principles of DDF and Dave Ramsey together. For example, use cash for everyday spend and only pull out CC's for MSing. Keep separate checking accounts for MS and regular spend.
I don't know about you but my everyday spending likely makes up ~1% of my points accruals. 99% comes from MSing.

For someone with $30K in annual expenditures that's lighting ~$900 on fire. And you lose extended warranty, return protection, etc.
What's wrong with a little self control?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Yes, although you lose out on the purchase protections that credit cards provide that you aren't getting with cash. Credit cards have more benefits than points.

+1 I've saved more money with certain benefits than the points I've accrued through my regular spend are worth (Sign up bonuses and MS not included of course)

nothing wrong, but it can take one bad month that you "only need for a few days"...

I agree. Self control goes a long way - which is why I continue to use credit cards. But there's no denying that we spend more when swiping plastic vs handing over paper dollars.  I also think it's a mistake to say, "I'm paying the balance in full so clearly CC's are okay for me." How about, "Am I saving as much as I can for retirement so I can free myself from the slavery that is my day job?"

Moach shalit al haleiv is what separates us from the animals. But you're right, if you're not going to have self control then by all means, listen to Dave or else you'll wind up subsidizing losses from DDF'ers...
