mosaic status

i couldnt find any such thread. if i book a ticket and then get mosaic status would the free cancellation/changes benefits apply?

The rule is that you need to have Mosaic at the time that you want to use the benefits.

If i have Mosaic status are there any promotions where i can be matched onto a different airlines higher tiered status? I just got it and looking to try and get status matched on different airlines.

As those matches are typically once in a lifetime, I think you're best advised have a targeted plan/reason for match before pursuing.

with the free changes on same day does that apply if my original flight had a stopover and i want to change to  a nonstop?
