I used to Kayak which i loved because they showed options of different airports for the return and departure but i dont find them to be the most competitive. What website do you find to be overall the best ?

Who sets the definition of RT? If an airline allows RT pricing when departing and arriving in different airports within a city that's not a RT?

It's unclear to me what "using different airports for departure and arrival" means. If it means I fly from my city's only airport to LGA, then return from JFK to my city, I'd consider it an open-jaw RT.

Take off from EWR and land in JFK on the return.

-1, ime. If one ways are cheaper, it will price out with 2 one ways anyway. And there have been times when I've gotten flights cheaper as a rt flight than booking each segment separately. Also, one flight means one change fee, etc.
