any opinions on nice hotels with loyalty programs in la. Any that are  highly recommended

Hyatt Regency Century Plaza
Intercontinental Century City

Both down the street from each other... Nice hotels, generally not too cheap.

There is a Sheraton in Santa Monica that is apparently OK. The Fairmont in SM I find quite nice.

Death Valley is the largest park in the US, at 3.4 million acres. I'm not sure if august is the best time to go there, it could reach upto 135 degress there in the summer. In the park is the lowest elevation points in the US at 282 feet below sea level. For more check http://wikitravel.org/en/Death_Valley

What about Yosemite or Kings Canyon in CA? They are both really great national parks.

you will have a tough time with any lodging inside any of the park. they literally book a year in advance (see if you can find something next summer)
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Well than Zion NP will be perfect, it is situated halfway between Denver & LA. Do they have lodging?
