Paying for extra hours

I'm sure some of you have had experience with this problem. I rented a car from National at 12PM on Sunday and returned it Tuesday at 4PM. Because it was more than 48 hours they charged me for a third day. Is there any way to get them to charge for only 2 days? It was only $30 but it would be nice to not have to pay it.

It's official policy that after 4 hours over the rental it's automatically another day.
You don't want to be charged hourly for 4 hours.
