Is there going to be a DO?
What's that famous saying about DOs? "If you build it they will come?"

The DO will be easy to find, I'll probably be the tallest thing on the prairie for miles around.

Well other than that what 7 gazillion people seem to have the same idea, it seems good.

I'm not sure what the odds are of cloud cover, I'll wait for @Something Fishy on that one

At this point it's not about the odds, but active forecasts. Google eclipse weather, there are tons of sites that are constantly updating.

Last I checked the Smokies were due for thunderstorms around then.

Interesting fact: The eclipse is expected to knock out 9,000 MW of solar generation. This is more than what the entire NYC uses on a typical summer day. It is about the highest the entire PSE&G (NJ) has EVER used at a time.
Will be an issue in a few years when 1/3 of electricity is solar.
I'm not who you think I am.

It depends where the eclipse passes relative to the level of solar generation in that area, and at what time of day. If high magnitude eclipse goes through California during midday, then we could see huge campaigns asking for conservation of energy that day. But power companies could also fire up the old coal generating equipment for one day. Or the eclipse could happen late in the day, which is not peak generation time. Or it could eclipse in places where not much solar generated, like the northeast.
