I just spoke to my travel agent to get some clarity.  She said that the flight was an American Airlines flight and that it was operated by Iberia.  She said it was a married flight and their excuse of us not checking in early is nonsense because we checked in from Miami.  She also said that they did not give us a boarding pass for the Madrid to TLV flight because they knew that they overbooked.

I still did not hear back from Dan.  Hoping he got my e-mail.

Thanks for all the help!

Interesting. You should've insisted in Miami that you want the boarding pass for the second leg as that is standard procedure.

Boarding pass without a seat assignment?

Send an email to one of the companies who deal with compensation in exchange for a cut of the compensation paid out. There was one who is in the news recently for successfully suing El Al a number of times.

Boarding pass without a seat assignment?
Yes. That's what airlines usually do. And at that point there were probably still some seats available.

Off my head. IL does not have denied boarding policies, only the 8 hour delay policy which of course if you have been denied boarding and arrived 8 hours late you are entitled to comp. Europe has the 250/400/600 Euro policy depending on your route. US has the policy where you have to pay a sum of money depending on routing I think $1300 is the most you can demand.

Question is in the above case can the pax demand comp as per the regulations from the 3 above countries? Like comp x 3?

So EU is 600 for MAD-TLV denied boarding.
US is 4x the one-way fare, up to $1,350.
And IL is 3K ILS it seems for 8+ hour delays.

I'd assume you can only file under one.

Not sure if US applies.

The way I read this, US would only apply if occurred at a US airport.

IINM that depends on the point of origin (distance of flight). If indeed these were two tickets, rather than married segments on a single ticket, compensation might only be based on MAD-TLV.

Is it illegal to bump minors?  I really want to publicize this so that this situation does not happen to other mothers.

It was sold as one ticket, so it should qualify for the 3K ILS.

They flew from Miami to Madrid, not NY.  I would have expected them to have gotten boarding passes in Miami for their connecting flight from MAD to TLV, but they didn't.  Isn't it normal to get a boarding pass to their connecting flight?  That is why I am suspicious that the Iberia rep knew they overbooked and my children seemed like an easy target to bump off the plane.
Did they checkin with AA or Iberia in Miami? Did the rep say anything about the boarding passes for MAD-TLV?

They checked in at the Iberia desk and my father asked a few times for boarding passes for the Madrid flight to TLV but was told that it can only be issued when they arrive in Madrid.

I doubt there's a law, but it take a brain-dead agent to bump minors.
Did they tell the agent in MAD that they were all under 18?
