I'm not comfortable doing that unless I have a good backup. Then again unless I have a pretty good idea of what to do on the GOR itself before going I wouldn't have gone in the first place. I'm not that great with finding and/or doing unexpected activities.

You're speaking to someone who booked JNB+CPT+MQP 24 hours in advance :P

If I recall you spent time in FRA planning that trip, so I guess we travel differently.

Yep. Spent 12 hours in FCT planning. I'll have plenty of time considering I'll be in BOB for three whole days prior :P

It's not like people fly to BOB to spend anytime outside enjoying the water or anything, right?  ;D

You just found a place to stay for the night without any arrangements before hand?
No,  i can't do that.
We stayed by a place called something like camping under the koalas.
I was with my family (husband and kids ) and my sister so i couldn't just crash anywhere.  Needed a place with at least a separate bedroom for her.
There they had nice cabins for decent prices

Am I crazy if I want to leave Melbourne early Sunday AM and drive the GOR, and stay there overnight.  Then drive early Monday AM from the GOR to Grampians and leave the Grampians Monday night to drive all the way back to Melbourne to catch an flight Tuesday AM to Cairns? Was thinking of leaving after Shabbat (in March) but assuming it would be tough to drive at night that kind of distance?

That sounds like too much driving in one day in the way back.

Thanks, that's what I thought as well. Any suggestions otherwise of how to see both places in that timeframe?

Do the GOR but skip the Gampians?

No way to do both in 2 days. And, honestly, I'd have a tough time deciding which to skip.

That's my dilemma.  Is it crazy to try to drive on Saturday night all the way to the Grampians for the first time being in Australia?

Yes.
It's not doable without extending your trip.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

And if you're going to do it, you may as well do it right, or skip the Gampians and do the GOR in one day like I did (regretfully).

Thanks all, will have to try and figure out which one to choose. Does anyone else have trip reports besides for Yehoshua and Dan? I find them to be very helpful when trying to plan a major trip like this.
