Small Courtesies
« on: August 29, 2017, 10:13:29 AM »
What are some of the small things you like to do to pass on some good?

I'll start:

When borrowing a car, I return it to the owner's driveway facing out so they have a little of an easier time pulling out.

I lend out my car, even though all I get out of it is finding it pointed towards the street when I get it back. That and an empty gas tank.
I'm an optimist; but only because life isn't going to give me any other good choices.

Putting out your tray when you finish eating. Pretty uncommon in NYC.

+1  A random smile to a random person.  Amazing how it can light up someone's face and even change a person's day.

Correcting ppl who are wrong on the Internet. It's amazing to think how many opportunities you have to help ppl know what is correct and incorrect,  and how you can change their entire outlook.

When I borrow someone's car I like to give people rides in it. It's a very good way of paying them with something they'll get in the world to come. Imagine this: Someone comes up after 120 and finds that he gets extra gan eden for giving someone a hitch. When he insists that he never gave that individual a ride, they tell him that it was cuz he lent his car to Mr. So & So.

I like to lend it out to my friends. Imagine he gets up after 120 and finds he lent his car to hundreds of ppl he didn't even know about.

First of all, it's someone who would clearly agree and be happy. Second of all, why not? A shoel is kal hanaah shelo and it's considered a normal hishtamshus, so what's the problem. I'm not lending it further, just taking people on hitches.

i can argue but i kinda hear what ur saying. i just know r elchonon wasserman refused a ride he was offered in a wagon that was s/o had borrowed. possible to be mechalek btwn then and now but definitely not clear cut imo. iinm the problem was that its not the hishtamshus of the shoel rather the person getting the ride.

Driving with my family, we reached the toll plaza at RFK Bridge, and there was apparently some problem with our ezpass. Of course we didn't have any cash, so the officer lifts the arm (they had those in olden days of pre-July 2017) and tells us to pull over to the side after the toll plaza.

A few minutes later she walks over and tells us we can go. Seeing our puzzled looks, she points over at another car going through the plaza and tells us the driver of that car paid for us.

We got a quick look at the guy and were able to wave our thanks. He appeared to be a 30-something Hispanic man. We were totally in awe of this man's random act of kindness and resolved to pay it forward.
If you don't care why would you comment?

Yeah, but if it dies while you're giving out rides, the shoel is chayav for it :P
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
