So with major tragedies I think you would agree the intensity, sincerity and seriousness of prayer should be greater? I am sure you can guess my next question but that is not for this thread.

Unfortunately things aren't always as they should be. Also when someone feels a connection to the victims that will help the level of prayer.

No power throughout southern Florida.  Their electric wires are all above ground and severe wind can bring them down.
So noone is using their phone for long reports.
We got a minute phone call from North Miami Beach less than half an hour ago. 
No power, winds beginning to get weaker. They're not in a flood zone, and indeed they have no flooding.

My people have cell service.  NMB, Ft lauderdale area, West Palm Beach.
They're whatsapping reports periodically.

Same here, family in nmb keep sending WhatsApp but I keep telling them to preserve their battery

I'm in Boca. We still have power but it goes on and off. Usually, if a power line is down, it will be out for good. Seems to just be power surges here and there.
