This belongs in the OTD thread, but IMHO if people knew basic Hebrew from a young age, there would be a smaller percentage of OTD. I do not think that is the cause, but that would definitely help people grow roots of their own at an early age.
I am not sure you are correct on this one. How would you explain Israeli OTD? Granted, IME many Israelis cannot read properly with nekudos, but that doesn't mean they don't know basic Hebrew.
All of that notwithstanding, I am constantly baffled by people who grew through Yeshiva education and prefer reading דברי תורה in English rather than לשון הקודש. I have a very hard time reading business related material (not talking about news articles, but more in depth stuff, including contracts etc) in Hebrew, and when it comes to Torah learning, I just can't read English.
