Trip to Hawaii- December 2011/January 2012

Hello Everyone.


It would be wonderful if I could get any help or tips on a vacation to Hawaii for my wife and I  towards the end of year. We want to depart December 25th and hopefully be there until January 2nd or 3rd. We are coming from NYC.

My goal is to try and get there with mileage. I have approx. 105000 miles on BA, and around 160,000 miles AA miles. I was looking for award availability and the only thing available were the anytime awards meaning 180,000 miles for both of us in economy which is really high IMHO. 

would greatly appreciate the help as I am ready to book ASAP.

im sure u know that christmas and new years time will be mighty hard to get award seats

ya I do. Unfortunately due to work constraints I am forced to go during that period. I am just curious to find out if there are cheaper award ways to get there..ie different routes etc...I hoped that being 5 months early may give me a leg up but I may be wrong.

for dates such as these people book 330 days out as soon as airlines open award inventory. I think that ur only option is to either buy tix or wait until closer to dec and hope that they open award inventory

appreciate the advice momo. Definitely hope some award tickets open up as regular tickets are $1400 plus from NYC

The cheapest i see on those dates are 1169 on aa to kauai or 1179 to hnl on aa with 1 stop if you can get your hands on some aa gift cards that could bring the price down by around 1000 dollars or so.

wow...So i got super lucky today...was checking randomly and found one way ticket FROM LIH (KAUAI) to NYC in business class for 37,500 each on January 4, 2012 which was exactly what I was looking for. So 75,000 for my wife and I for half way there.5 minutes after I booked it availability was gone.

Now I have to find one way tickets there, hotel, and car....wow this trip planning ain't easy!!! Thanks for the advice Momo...I appreciate it
