Booking with points - Rooms for 6 people
« on: September 19, 2017, 01:29:15 PM »
I'm trying to book points reservations for next summer and can't find point redemptions available for rooms that can accommodate 6 people. I've tried both Marriott and IHG. Redemptions are available for smaller rooms, but not larger ones and there is plenty of capacity at the hotels.

Is there a way to book larger suites with points?

Most suites only officially fit 4 people so just do a search for one person and if you feel you can fit 6 people in the room go for it.

Hyatt lets you book suites with points (again not officially big enough for 6 people) with a minimum 3 night stay

SPG will let you book suites with points as well by calling (obviously in both cases you will have to use extra points)

Ive seen some marriots that allow you to book a standard room and pay a small upgrade fee per night to get a suite as well so you can look into that too.

Finally Airbnb is best when travelling with 6 people

But again I believe the root of your problem is that you are searching for 6 people

I'm looking at hotels that have rooms for six people (Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn). The problem seems to be that you can book a standard room with points but not a larger room.

I see the exception is Marriott but you have to pay an upgrade fee. Is there no way to book the larger rooms solely with points?

That's really annoying.

But I appreciate your help.

Hyatt you said isn't large enough. I misread the SPG and will call. Thanks!

Hyatt has rooms that are large enough, it all depends on the specific hotel.

I never said its not big enough. I said officially they fit 4 people, but you dont have to show up with all your kids when you check in. Just check in by yourself and bring your wife and kids to the room after

Also not a steadfast rule. I stayed in a suite in Atlanta last year that officially allowed up to 8 ppl.

They won't have enough beds then.

(Not that it matters, but I'm female)

my apologies! it would be more helpful if you tell us what area you are looking into.

Usually a suite would have a sofa bed that can sleep 2. A king size bed that can fit 3 and you can request a roll away for person # 6

2 bedrooms (3 beds) + pullout couch. And since it was in random place in Atlanta is was just 5K + 3K per night.

For next summer, I'm specifically looking in Montreal, but it seems like I'll run into that problem everywhere I want to travel.

If the hotel offers connecting rooms you can just book two and request to be next to each other.

My experience has been that connecting rooms are not guaranteed and depends on availability at time of check in.

Priceline and Hotels.com dont have options for suites. How did you book?
