Another shot fired in the Amazon/WM war.

Interesting, as WM has no NYC presence. Closest is Valley Stream (or some NJ stores, depending on which part of NYC one is looking from). This gives NYC shoppers an interesting opportunity to shop Walmart (though it won't help with reloads, MO's, etc.)

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will soon offer free, same-day delivery of orders in the New York City area, a service already provided by its Jet.com subsidiary, the company’s U.S. e-commerce chief Marc Lore said at an advertising industry event in New York Wednesday.

“In the New York surrounding area, Jet.com right now is offering free, same-day delivery,” Lore said at the conference. “And we’ll be doing the same with Wal-Mart very soon.”

That might be news to the rest of the company, as a Jet customer-service representative said there was no such service available when queried by Bloomberg News.

Seems like this is for Walmart orders, in addition to what is already offered by Jet.com.

Also I guess it's my mistake when I initially wrote 1-day shipping (I've edited my OP). Article says SAME DAY delivery.

Your guess is as good as anyone's. It's reasonable to expect at least $35 minimum order. Right now it's only an announcement to the press. Let's wait for the actual details to come in writing.

Your guess is as good as anyone's. It's reasonable to expect at least $35 minimum order. Right now it's only an announcement to the press. Let's wait for the actual details to come in writing.

Any hopes for this to last? Or will be a flop like the walmart membership/prime membership?

One company is owned by the other, but it's still two companies.

Having one company fulfill orders for the other, when dealing with such huge companies, isn't as simple as just "let's do it" and it gets done. That being said, it is doable, and might very well be what they are working on. The logistics and systems need to be worked out.
