Traveling with 1 year old in biz - any tips?
« on: September 28, 2017, 11:04:49 AM »
Not sure if this is the right area to post.. please forgive.

I am traveling in the next few weeks with a 1 year old (lap) and 5 year old in business/first overseas (8-9 hours). I figure they will both share a seat to sleep. Any tips i should be aware of going in?

I flew recently with my 20 month old from US to Spain.  Lots of new toys helped.  My son has a tendency to play with a new thing for 30-45 minutes, and then never again.  We actually had to make a trip to Toys R Us in Barcelona to buy more toys for the ride home (coloring books, legos, match box cars, etc...).  This ate up a lot of chunks of time.

Accept the fact that your youngest may cry or be uncomfortable.  Do your best to calm and soothe them, but it is bound to happen.

Sleeping in a new place was an adventure.  My son is not a great sleeper at home, so when we put his in his fancy lie-flat seat, he was hardly as excited as I was on my first international business class trip.  Just have a backup plan for sleep -- obviously this is kid-dependent.  We ended up having my wife shush in his ear while I rubbed his back and he eventually gave in and went down.

Oh boy, sounds like fun lol. Thanks for the heads up, will def stock up.

its a night flight, right at his bed time. I just wish they wouldnt serve dinner an hour into the flight, hopefully the lights will be off. (I think its the 2/3/2 config and we have the middle 3)

I've seen airlines sending passengers to economy if the child cried and other passengers complained.

Which airline? I've been with dozens of crying kids and never seen anything like that.

For some, that creates the opposite side effect.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Yes! Make sure to test a few days before if you plan on trying it
