Cc after death of account holder
« on: October 03, 2017, 01:45:22 PM »
I didn't find a thread for this yet, so I need some advice. My father z"l passed away three weeks ago in Israel. His cc due date was the day he died. He had 64000 MR points on his amex platinum. I wanted to know:
1. Do we have to pay his bill?
2. I want to transfer his points to miles before I report the death so amex won't close the account but can't do it since his due date passed. Is there any reason I shouldn't pay the bill in order to get the points? (The bill is much higher than the points value)
Thank you for your advice, and my we only share good news.

Thanx. The question remains: my father didn't have an authorized user. He has no $ in accounts in the us. Should I pay his bill so I can cash out his miles before they close his account if I would have to pay anyway at the end, or hope that if I don't pay, they will never be able to get the $?

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

Technically, shouldn’t only the father officially be allowed to add an AU to his account?

What happens after they see the death certificate and follow the timeline?

Why do you have to show the death certificate. You can close the account at any time for any reason

because I don't want to have to pay the bill.

Do NOT add an AU now. If there's a possibility that you won't be paying the bill, don't add anyone they can link to the account and chase after. It'll give AU credit score issues and can cause a headache.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

They can go after an AU? I dont think so. The AU is only that, but has no fiscal responsibility for the account.

They can go after him for fraud. I was talking about collecting the outstanding balance from the AU.
