I have a friend who AA miles are expiring in a few days. They don’t currently have an AA CC.

What’s the fastest (instant) way to earn some points to avoid his miles from expiring?

Sign up to https://www.aadvantageeshopping.com/ and purchase something for at least $1. You can find something for that price on Newegg, but remember to visit Newegg via AA's website in order for the points to post to your account.

Can take weeks.
But it should help to reinstate miles if the shopping took place before expiration, correct?

They don't always post. It's not a foolproof way to keep your miles from expiring when you're close to the exp date.

This worked for me last December. Miles posted within days. Possibly even the next day.

If you follow the terms, it should work. For example, ordering apple products using a portal from BestBuy won't earn you anything. But anything else that's not excluded should work.

I've had to fight in the past. Are you really going to risk your entire account when you can just buy a magazine for a few hundred miles?
Next time don't let it come down to the wire...

Agreed. Who did you have to fight with? Was it the portal not posting and you were fighting to have it posted? Or was it the posted miles not reinstating the expired miles?

They do not post fast enough, can take weeks, buy a magazine with miles as @Dan mentioned or purchase the fewest amount of miles, it is worth it if you have a good amount of miles you do not want to risk losing.

I have AA miles expiring in three days. I bought a magazine subscription today. I don't yet see the activity or updated expiration date on my AA account. How quickly should I see it?
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

Don't worry.
I bought a magazine on the last day before my miles expired and it didn't post for a while but it worked to keep my miles alive.
