Potentially worse than a homemade fix that might void the warranty.
Right. Plus here I now switched to a new one, I now just want to fix this so I can sell it (and recover some data that wasn't properly backed up)

A new factory refurb isn't worth more than a fixed used with voided warranty?

But even if not, won't a factory refurb get more than a used?

I can't imagine someone paying more for a used with unknown issues than for a factory refurb. Would you?

I'm going to go in store. When my wife cracked her screen they fixed it on the spot for extremely cheap.
S8? Did you have any premium warranty?
Remember approximate price paid?

ETA: I'm being quoted $400 for a S8+ screen everywhere I checked so far.

Was an S7 edge.

I don't remember exactly, but here's what I think it was.

Parts for the screen costed about $300 alone-  most places wanted $350-$400 to fix (parts included).

Samsung store fixed it for around $245 tax included.

I have a S7 edge, and went to a repair shop the other day. They asked me if I have insurance, I do, and then I was advised to report it stolen.

I once sent back my G2 because GPS wasn't working. I was stuck with a piece of junk refurb for the next year with a shot battery and constantly freezing. Refurb doesn't come with a new warranty, and I got it right before the original warranty expired so I couldn't even exchange for another refurb.

Sometime it works out fine but you don't know what you're getting.
If you don't care why would you comment?

Exactly. The repair shop had the audacity to recommend insurance fraud because replacing the LCD is so expensive.
But then again, the cell company insurance doesn't repair the phone - they just send out a used / preowned refurbished phone
as a replacement.
