Another benefit for United Elite members is that if they spend $25K in a year on the card it will waive the requirement to spend $2.5K on United flights to get Silver status, $5K on United flights to get Gold status, and $7.5K on United flights to get Platinum status. You only need to fly the 25K, 50K, or 75K miles like in the good old days.
What does this mean then? From DDMS.
in order to obtain stauts you need both flying miles and PQD Premier Qualifying Dollar (money spent on flights only.)
There is no way to avoid the flying miles requirement
But in regards to the PQD you can either change your address to out of the US and it's waived all the way through to premier 1k (where normally 12k is required)
Or spend 25k on your united card and have the PQD waived up to platinum.
