Pars Kosher Market in San Jose, certified by the Vaad, now has a small eat in section (4 tables, first come first serve) with a short meat menu and ready made hot food. Also lots of kosher groceries.
Stanford University Cafeteria weekday lunches five days a week and dinners Monday - Thurs. General public can pay at Florence Moore Dorm and enjoy the Kosher section. Fleishig (meat) for both meals each day. Flo-Mo, as it is called, is on Mayfield Ave., across from the parking lot of Tressidor.  Finding the dining hall can be a challenge for outsiders but any student will direct you.

Groceries (etc):

San Francisco
CHOUX Bakery - French cream puffs (Haight-Ashbury) Pas yisroel, cholov yisroel. No longer certified kosher / open on Shabbos.

East Bay
Oakland Kosher.
Grand Bakery (Oakland) Pas Yisroel, Dairy items are NOT cholov yisroel. Closing 12/23/16
Berkeley Bowl (Berkeley) has some kosher items.
Costco (Definitely the one in Richmond. I believe this applies to others in the Bay Area, but this is what I know firsthand.) has cholov yisroel cheese and Jack's sausages. (As of August 2014)

South Bay
I believe Mollie Stone's in Palo Alto has a big Kosher selection. there are probably other options there as well.

There is also Grand Bakery in Oakland under that same hashgacha, gotta stop by if you are in the area. Can't compete with the likes of more heimishe area, but still very decent.
Yeah, I guess I missed that somehow...
But beware, the dairy items are not cholov yisroel...

There is no specific amount of time that the tour takes. The earlier u go the more u can stay on the island, cuz u could take back any boat that u want. Probably would stay for 2-3 hours plus duration of the boat ride. For other attraction read the beginning of the thread.

Who's in to start a community?
That post is 2 years old.  The Mountain view eatery mentioned is already Kaput.
I don't see the draw of SF.
Mediocre weather, high cost of living, nothing doing on the kosher scene, liberal wackos abound, etc.

No offense, but duh.
I'm comparing it to LAX/SAN/MIA, etc.  I.E. Cities people move to for the weather despite the negative factors.
Nobody moves to the east coast or midwest for the weather.

That restaurant is kaput, but every time one goes kaput another opens up and replaces it, like in sf they now have Jerusalem grill. They are still missing a pizza shop though. And like u said not the best weather, it is always super windy all seasons.

Hard to quantify... I think you have to live there to really appreciate it. Everybody who lives there loves it. Personally some of the areas outside of SF are nicer. Thre is something intangibly awesome about NoCal.

Lol, Napa is a little too quiet for my taste. I haven't spent much time in Marin but Berkeley or Palo Alto are just right for me.

Lived for a little under a year. I grew very fond of it...

I suppose it depends what you are looking for; now as a married man with a kid, Berkeley would be far from ideal. Single - there was nothing like it!
