Turkish Airlines
« on: June 30, 2011, 06:29:04 PM »
My wife and I are planning on going to EY in mid August.
Are there any issues with flying Turkish Airlines through Istanbul to TLV? I know that last year, after the whole flotilla situation, some prefered to stay off Turkish. Should there be anything about taking Turkish Air to EY that should concern me?

The reason I ask is because I am able to get a hold of tickets for Turkish Air that are 20% cheaper than Continental. Should I just take the Turkish Tickets?

Thanks!

I flew Turkish about 5 years ago and the flight was fine.  Food was awful though.  Dont know if things have changed.

If you don't leave the airport you got nothing to worry about. i flew recently economy with them and the nyc-ist flight was great-newish plane roomy and good service. yet the "shayroot" style shaky school bus from turkey to israel was horrible. yet when i flew it was more like $400 difference which was probably worth it

Regarding Turkish Air -

I am taking the JFK to IST flight as well.

Is it possible to get in the Turkish Lounge if you are silver status, without paying the normal fee?

Thanks.

flew a few months ago and had a horrible experience.. granted i flew on the thursday 6 pm flight that landed around noon for the 1 pm connection i knew i was taking a chance but i could not leave earlier and had to attend a wedding.
we got delayed because of fog in jfk and were assured by the staff that the 20+ people connecting for tel aviv would be escorted to their gate and the flight be held..
no escort, no flight waiting and i ended up getting stuck for shabbat in turkey.. on top of this they lost our bags and we didnt make it to the hotel till about 20 minutes before shabbt. we waited 4 hours in the airport.
wasnt such a pleasant experience, id rather fly through a safer city in the future.

You need Gold Status with a Star Alliance carrier to get in to the Turkish lounge.

Sorry to tell you, but you can only blame yourself. Would never fly connecting so short before shabbes witha one hour connection, that was just asking for trouble...

+1

Rule of thumb: when booking, ALWAYS check when the next flight out is after the one you are scheduled to connect to, just in case you miss your connection. Forewarned is forearmed.

FYI, UA is lowering the 3 lowest fare buckets from 100% earnings to 0%.

So much for those great mileage runs they've had...

I'm sure TK's recent $25 BF had something to do with it.

I flew through turkey 4 times since the flotilla. Was great flight. One time even had wifi all the way from NYC -IST

I saw something in the news today about a woman from NYC got killed there this week. But I think the airport is more than okay

As Chaikel once said...

I've seen more arabs in TLV and EWR. And they no longer allow ppl to bring RPGs into the airport, so it's pretty safe ::)

So if we've already booked tickets in April - would they be effected?  Or would tickets booked after March 1 be effected?
