Bringing a Torah into the US
« on: November 17, 2017, 12:24:34 PM »
Does anyone have experience bringing a Torah into the US? Someone I know is bringing a Torah from Israel into the US for a not for profit org. Does he needs to declare it, and if so how would he avoid paying duty as he is bringing it in for a not for profit? TIA

My Father brought his Father's Sefer Torah from Israel to the US after his Father passed away, I don't recall him having any issues to just bring it. I'll ask him and hopefully keep you posted

Thanks
Spoke to him, he said that he had it in a duffel bag and wasn't asked any questions. He didn't hide it, but it also wasn't obvious. He's not aware of any issues, so he didn't even have a story prepared :)

I might be able to get you a better answer from someone who's done it multiple times
