First normal credit card
« on: June 05, 2018, 12:55:27 PM »
Hey Dan or JJ,
Jusy got my first credit score (a 750,) and I want to apply for my first good credit card now. Looking for an everyday credit card with no annual fee. I'm a student, so not spending an insane amount, or traveling too much, which card do you recommend? I was thinking about maybe the citi double cash, or the amex everyday.... thoughts ?
Thanks!

No one asked you.
But approval wouldn't be too easy, really depends what's making that 750 score, and if it's FICO.

Definitely start with Chase cards

Hard on approvals for a first card, and I would waste credit issued on a freedom product

A card like a Discover or a Wells Fargo Student.
What's on your credit report?

Start with amex blue cash everyday. It's easy to get accepted to and often if you have an amex card and then apply for a second amex card they won't do another hard pull ( I have 4 amex cards and only 1 hard pull from them) so this could be a good benefit for later on. Unlike if you were to go with discover

Future pulls shouldn't effect a first card application, Amex Blue cash isn't known for approving first cards. Unless he can explain what his report consists of, it'll be hard to get a solid answer.
For example, if he is an Amex AU it should be easy to get any Amex.

-1 I've told many people to get the amex blue cash everyday as a first card none had a problem getting accepted

I've seen a few denials as well, Discover IMO is a solid move and generally more profitable then the blue cash

actually a friend of mine had a problem with discover when he applied as his first card. Blue cash you get $200 for signing up discover is $50 now and then at the end of the year another $50

ROI.
2% back and 10% categories for the first year is solid.

Ive helped guys apply for both the Amex blue cash and discover it as their first card numerous times. It looked like discover was easier to get approved for (although they asked for verification documents every time)

Assuming you apply as a student.
The advantage of BC is you can look for  prequalify, which is more common then Discovers
