What a complete scam! I was charged full price too, despite the $7+ price that was in the cart with coupon! Would never have known had I not come back and seen this thread. How often does this happen w/Amazon? I have never seen this before...what a racket.

Me: There was a coupon that I clipped that brought the price down. There was no other email.
The email on 11/20 was a shipping email, NOT a price adjustment email.
I see now that the email on 11/20 has a different price, but it was just a shipping email saying it was on the way. I didn't even read it.
If it had said, NOTE THE PRICE OF YOUR ITEM HAS GONE UP BY FIVE TIMES then I might have read it!
Give me a break.
There is no way I can expect an email that says, "your item is on the way" to have a price that is FIVE TIMES what I actually paid!
Amazon should have given me the choice to accept the price.
In fact, there have been times that Amazon has canceled orders because of a price mistake. But this time, amazon shipped AND RAISED THE PRICE WITHOUT MY APPROVAL!
This is absolute fraud.
I actually bought this to donate to charity, but fortunately, I haven't. So I can return it for full credit. But I expect some compensation for this insanity.
At a minimum, I expect a refund of the price difference. There is no excuse for this.
I'm shocked that I am getting any resistance from Amazon on this.

Would you like me to post this chat all over the Internet where your customers can see what Amazon claims is OK and legal? That you can charge one price online and then after shipping, QUINTUPLE THE PRICE and claim that's ok just because the new price shows up in the "your order has shipped" email? Seriously?
There is ZERO CHANCE that this is legal.

I was absolutely serious about the use for this thing in the chat I posted.... it's sitting in my wife's car to be donated to a toy drive. No good deed goes unpunished. This seems like a pretty fundamental problem with Amazon. If they can charge one price and then raise it without consent, that's a huge problem. I paid with an Amazon gift card and don't really want my amazon account closed, so I don't really have the ability to protest the charge...but it seems like a HUGE problem.

Disregard that chat. Karan is sitting at a desk in India and has no clue what he or she is talking about. They are programmed to say or do certain things.  You need to get an American rep either by phone or chat. It's possible you won't be able to get an American rep on chat until Monday, but you can try by phone.

You are taking the path of least resistance, but I understand. Personally I believe an American rep or manager would see the gravity of this error of this and credit the difference immediately. (In very, very rare cases they would ask that you send it back.)

Just a speculation, but what I think happened here is that after an order is placed there is probably a number of seconds until payment actually gets processed. Amazon doesn't want to keep the customer at the loading screen, so they tell you right away that your order is confirmed, and then process it behind the scenes. During those few seconds, they pulled the coupon. The system then processed the order without the coupon because the system couldn't find it.

Whatever you do I would not return it I would call them and have someone over the phone which is easier that way you don't have to sit there typing and almost positive they're going to do a price adjustment for you after telling them that I have a receipt showing I paid 7 and why am I being charged 30 something.
 In this scenario you have an email stating and you have a confirmation when you went to check out for $7 I would not give up and definitely pay my $7 and not more, worth a few minutes just play Huca.
  Definitely wouldn't mind doing this for you but I don't want to take your private information meaning your email and your home address.

 One last tip which I use all the time and bli ayen harah (thank good)works well for me it is as soon as you get a representative tell them right away want to speak to a supervisor and not the regular Representatives.
 While having the regular Indian Representatives they can spend with you on the phone 25 minutes telling you this and that and then tell you NO versus the supervisor right away either they tell you yes or either no, in most my scenarios they always give me their one-time exception excuse and do what I ask for.  ;)

it doesn't sound that way, imagine placing an order and then realizing two weeks later that your order was cancelled that's why you never received it because it wasn't in stock.

Inventory is very different. Their inventory is programmed directly into the system that instantly counts each order and shows how many are left. It's almost always accurate, but occasionally I do get emails stating that my order can't be fulfilled due to lack of inventory.

According to my speculation, in this case the coupon was pulled from the system by someone in IT. When the system tried processing the latest orders that had the coupon it simply couldn't process the coupon and thus billed/invoiced the order without it.
