What are you gaining by booking one leg fully refundable?

It is YMMV,  almost every CSR will tell you that since you used the first leg it is not refundable anymore.

Well, since I didn't get a timely reply, I didn't book it that way.

I actually took advantage of the RJ sale on 1/1, but am now faced with having to change plans. RJ wants $580 for the change.
