I recently replaced a stationary laptop (no charge, had to be plugged in to be used) with a desktop that I built, and I'd been looking into the best monitor setup for it. Part of the point of this was to make it easier to work from my company laptop on days that I was working from home. I use two 19" 4:3 monitors at work and wanted similar screen real estate at home. But if I bought two monitors, it would kill it for movies and media. I was toying with the idea of an ultrawide (21:9), but they're generally expensive, so I was mostly focused on something more like a 27" 16:9 monitor.

Then last week I see that Bestbuy had the LG 29UM57 for $199 ($100 off the normal price of $299). What's more, they had open box for even less. I took the plunge and it came out to $178.54.

Got the monitor yesterday after an initial shipping snafu, and all I can say is - wow! This thing is nuts. They also give you some useful software: on program for screen splitting (emulating multiple monitors) - though Windows 10 does a really good job with window snapping anyway - and another as sort of a KVM emulator (use one keyboard/monitor/mouse to switch between 2 computers).

Still have to mount it, but I'm pretty excited about it.
That looks like a cool monitor. Shame it says it doesn't work with Mac. That's interesting to me since this is the first time I've heard of a monitor not being compatible with Mac. If I had to guess it probably will work with Mac; you just won't be able to install the software for fake split screens.

If you move farther up the lineup there are some ultrawides that they appear to market for Macs.

Does the software do a good job emulating two screens? That's a must for me.
I only used it a bit so far, but after playing around with it a bit, it doesn't seem to offer than much above and beyond what Windows offers through snapping, especially in Windows 10 - which might be enough for me anyway.

Like I said, I think it's just the software that's incompatible, not the actual monitor.

I'm sure you could find similar software for Macs too. I don't think there's anything special about the monitor in that regard, other than the fact that you really need that type of thing on a 21:9.

Too bad the $100 off isn't working now.

I need a monitor 27" preferred, but is there a thing that I can connect one monitor to the next? If yes what is such a thing called.

Link so I can understand.
Just to explain I have a all in one plus one screen attached. Now I want to switch from the all in one but I need 2 screens

ETA: The second screen is on top of my head so it won't reach the computer about 7 ft away unless I get a 7 ft VGA wire?

Yes you can, but if they aren't near each other how will it help?

I don't really use them at the same time I use one for monitoring my worker (using a viewing program) and if I need to some QB other than that no I don't use the second monitor

From the monitor 1 to monitor 2 would be about 3 feet but from the computer it would be about 7
ETA but you are saying the I can connect one monitor to the next correct?

You only need a wire from the computer to one screen and then one screen to the other
