were looking to scout out a new place to live, and i hear texas is the new hot place.. (no pun intended)
figured ill start my search here...

i know... thats why im wonderin if anyone here lives there. And i heard about the community in dallas- i guess it cant hurt to get a rabbis number. Im also more interested in houston i think... not that i know much about it-but i dont think i wud fit into a yeshiva crowd, and i know its a little less mainstream.

I know there is a more modern shul in Houston (never been to Houston, but know people from there)... here is the website: http://www.uosh.org/

Dallas has 2 (at least) communities. One was built up by a Kollel, and is probably the one you are thinking of.
There is another community in North Dallas that is a little less of a "yeshiva" crowd. While they have a yeshiva there, its not exactly the most yeshivish yeshiva; plenty of guys there wear colored shirts, or a knit kippa for example.

i've been to both and houston was amazing, the ppl there were great i felt right at home (and i would definitely consider moving there if i ever got up and moved)
its a tight knit community were i felt all are welcome yeshivish and modern (and anywhere in between) while most are frum and not yeshivish

I really dont think ur husband would like a MO community, especially if he doesn't think Reb Eliyashav is a machmir

LOL i dont want modern... i just dont want yeshivish... u c my husband isnt part of any main stream american yeshiva... so he doesnt fit into american kollels or communities and neither do i. But not MO...

Then perhaps you should look at places with a larger community where the options are a little greater allowing for more gray area between the MO and yeshivish. These small communities tend to have one or the other (or 2 different ones that are opposed to each other).

I hear. Not sure how to help. I think the OU runs a fair of sorts in NYC for people interested in "out of town" (note: I think that term is ridiculous) communities if you're into that. Maybe see if/when that is around. I think generally they bring communities regardless of whether its MO/Yeshivish, etc. from what I understand, that way you can see what different places have to offer.

Have you thought about Atlanta, anything going on down there? (since you're looking in the south anyway).
