Looking for a book
« on: December 13, 2017, 07:14:59 AM »
I am looking for the book "Aleph Shin"/"Ten Lost" by Sender Zeev.
All the classic bookstores say its out of print. anyone know where I can buy it, or has it and wants to sell it?

I'm assuming you'd prefer not to get ripped off, but it is for sale on Amazon.

Anyone have “In Every Generation” that they can sell?

And I’m not spending double the price to get it from amazon

@chaimdasap Did you check Shanky's? That's where I bought it, 10 years ago. Manny's in Meah Shearim also oftentimes has old books.

It hasn't been ruined by multiple coffee spit takes? You obviously haven't read it.

Indeed, even more so post-9/11.

I did read it (to my great chagrin), but I don't drink coffee, so no :P.

Negative.

I'm in Monsey, undercover (Mossad Aleph-Shin 68).

I read it many years ago and it still stands out in my mind as a shining paradigm of Jewish novels

However unintentional, it's the greatest Jewish comedy novel.

Now you have my curiosity piqued. Two of my favorite DDFers are saying that this book is beyond bizarre. What does it say?

At the risk of posting spoilers - suffice to say it is the most inventive Mossad plotting you could dream of, and Moshiach himself may or may not be involved in hand to hand martial arts combat.

It definitely bucks the trend, both in style and content. That being said, it is a very poorly-written book IMO. Absolutely zero character development, bizarre premises, and requires more suspension of belief than the 7 Harry Potter books put together.

Let's just say that if you think Chabad has weird ideas about Moshiach, you ain't seen nothing yet ;D

The book is only half as interesting as the author himself. He is both a Dayan and a State Judge, and a fascinating author of novels and seforim in his spare time.
He also wrote another book which I found very interesting. “Every Man a Slave”

I remember going in to my local Jewish Library as a kid and asking for Aleph Shin (this was way before Ten Lost took it into Crazy Level 1000) and being told that the book was deemed inappropriate for the library. I can't say I don't agree, now that I've read it.
