Amex not covering taxes on Israel rentals?

Amex started covering rentals in Israel in September

I submitted a claim for car rental damage in Israel with Amex. The car rental companies here charge 17% VAT for damages, and now Amex claim they only cover the damage but not the taxes. I never had such an issue with chase. Did anyone have a similar situation? Is there anything I can do about it?

I checked my T&C and they exclude taxes on repairs , unless required by law to cover them. I assume in the US they do cover taxes, but seems in Israel they won't? If correct, why use Amex to rent?

It wasn't me, I was just quoting the other post, and pointing out that the t&c confirms they don't cover taxes. That can be a pretty penny.

Hatzlocho on your situation and let us know

If they didn't charge tax on the rental because your a tourist, do they still charge tax for the damage?

As a tourist you are exempt from VAT tax on certain things Ex. car rental. The car rental company has to pay VAT tax to repair the cars(since they are not a tourist).

But if the tourist is paying for the damage, shouldn't they be exempt?

I don't think the Re: of the thread is right. AMEX dosen't cover taxes of any CDW repair according to there T&C.

The tourist isn't paying for the damage. It's the car rental company paying and then asking you to pay them back. But even if you would pay directly I don't think an auto repair company would qualify for VAT exemption for tourists

Update: Europcar did not charge the 17% VAT for the damage.
