This thread as of now has only 82 posts. and when it was written had less than 80 so it would be less than 20 posts per page.

Skyguy actually addressed my point, and argued that original intent doesn't matter. Redbull3 insists that the original intent was not to provoke thoughts of power or victory but something else. He and you refuse to say what the Intent was. You keep saying that the analogy proves your point.

If the word is a slur then the intent is irrelevant as I wrote very clearly over here therefore the answer to that question is irrelevant. I clearly wrote that this was the intent of the analogy. If you don't like the analogy and don't think it illustrates this point well then just ignore it and stop with your fixation on the words "what about". It is actually very much in line with what @skyguy918 wrote.

Whether or not the purpose in its use was to be complimentary does not change whether or not it is a slur. He had just quoted from Wikipedia that redskin is an offensive term. My point was that your reply was irrelevant to that argument since using a slur to convey a complimentary message does not change that it is a slur just like in my example where a slur being used to convey a complimentary message is still offensive.

The discussion we were having was of the original source of the name. We were not arguing whether some people find it offensive now.
He said he was fine with people using a slur for themselves. I said the name Indians wasn't intended as a slur it was intended as a word to provoke. Ideas of strength and power. He countered with "redskins". I answered his question. Now I'm being told the intent doesn't matter.
If that so then I don't care if your back or white. If you want to say a word shouldn't be used since it's a slur then nobody can use it

Too much back and forth over what was said. People can go back and look at the posts. I think we miscommunicated because i was incredulous that you thought redskins today means power and prowess, i was not incredulous that you thought the intent was positive.
Point is no one (clearly from subsequent posts) else cares about intent of one random guy in the 30s who came up with the name when negroes was also in vogue.
The only subject I have interest in engaging in is what native Americans think of the word and whether their feelings matter.

problem is do we make decisions based on the vocal minority or the silent majority? Someone will be offended by everything. ANd they will be vocal.
Same idea as yelp and reviews in general. People break out the letters and keyboards to write negative reviews, not so much with positive reviews. The 90% who dont give a poop about the name also don't care enough to protest in favor.
