Dan,
Seattle is definitely NOT a kosher gastronomic destination; there are 4 eateries, all dairy/parve scattered over a huge area. For some bizarre reason, all the kosher establishments are 20-25 minutes away from the main Seward Park community. With that information in hand, we took a small cooler back with vacuum packed homemade corned beef & schnitzel and bought salad bags etc. locally. However we did make it to the following 2 establishments:
Bamboo Garden - This kosher Chinese vegetarian restaurant is very close to Seattle Center and the Space Needle, and we decided to try it since we were in the area. The website lists lunch and dinner specials but they were not offered with the menus. I had Stewed Oyster Mushroom, Vegetables in Satay Peanut Sauce, and my son has the lo mein. Both were EXCELLENT, and the portions were generous. It's quite amazing what these folks can do with tofu. Sorry, no pictures.
On the way to/from Everett, we stopped at the kosher Einstein Bros. bagel store located inside the QFC University Village store that also has a large kosher department. The cinnamon coffee is unlike anything you've tried before, and their fresh squeezed orange juice IS done right on the spot. Between our two visits, we had lox/bagel and egg/cheese/bagel sandwiches, which were very tasty and served up quickly. On Mondays, they sell a baker's dozen for $7, and there is so much demand that we got hot out of the oven bagels at 2 PM. They have a large variety of flavors, and we took back to Baltimore pretzel, potato, blueberry and cranberry bagels (sorry Goldbergs!)
I also made it to the original Starbucks in Pike Place Market (technically the SECOND location, their first location burned down and they relocated to their current store) and bought a cup of Pike Place Reserve Roast, a smoother version of Pike Place that is brewed as a pour-over on the spot and is sold ONLY in this store, and no where else. It was VERY good! It even comes with its own "hot cup band".
Given the amount of interest and the fact that I don't see any other Seattle trip reports out there, I will expand my report to include the sightseeing and other aviation-related activities we did. I just need to upload my son's pictures to Flikr as we have some great ramp shots of the new Air Force 767 tankers and a FedEx 727! We did see two Poseidens but they were mostly blocked from view by fences.
