Avoid Spirit YQ At Airport?
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:40:57 PM »
I wrote here how the Spirit PUC is now $39.98, making airport buying savings even bigger:
https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/airlines/spirit/spirit-increases-passenger-usage-fee-heres-avoid-fly-chicago-cleveland-detroit-nyc-pittsburgh-los-angeles-60-round-trip/

A commenter pointed out that they now have a YQ charge that also says it's avoidable at the airport, which should mean tickets will be $55 off at the airport.

Anyone have experience with that yet?
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Isnt there an issue though with adding luggage though? Something that it will be more expensive because you are forced to buy it after the ticket was issued?

Each bag will be $10 more if added online after booking. But if you're saving $40-$55 (per passenger), that savings should be greater.

Although if it's just one person traveling, maybe not so worth it since you need to factor in time schlepping to the airport (and possible parking costs).

Just priced a flight out for a colleague online, SJU-LAS (via FLL) RT.

If booked as a RT for the whole ticket, Spirit wants $79.96 PUC  :o

If booking each RT individually (SJU-FLL RT and FLL-LAS RT), the PUC is only $19.98 + $39.98.
There are some other fee differences as well, making the total $30.4 cheaper to book each RT individually.

After almost vowing not to fly Spirit due to personal experience and even worse experience of my BIL, I did actually fly Spirit once, after reading DDMS post about beating Spirit at their own game, and buying at the airport.

I had a DL ticket for the route (LGA-FLL) booked through an OTA that allowed for cancellations. I walked up to the Spirit ticket counter, made sure that flight was actually leaving (wouldn't buy Spirit in advance), made sure Big Front Seat was available, purchased the ticket and then canceled the DL flight for a full refund.

IMHO that is the only way to fly Spirit (and due to their PUC game, it actually ends up cheaper).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Hi. Is there a way to know what fees can be avoided?

Any of these from silver airways?

Additionally, can I book these tickets at any airport, or only the airport of departure?
