-1 too much fun to sleep
For the novice. But, having been there and done that enough, one comes to realize that, in reality, you are confined to a seat that becomes a bed that is nowhere near as comfortable as your real bed at home, admit it, while you are being served what is essentially kosher airplane food, which even if  premium quality is still no better that what you can readily procure, and likely prefer, on terra firma. Plus you still have to use a ridiculously tiny bathroom which has been shared by many similarly confined J or F strangers. If you stay awake, you can watch movies in that same seat/bed that, as a chair, is not nearly as comfortable as your sofa or easy chair at home, admit it, on a small screen low definition TV, and arrive at your destination groggy and bleary eyed. Where is the too much fun exactly?

While that describes most premium products, it definitely doesn't cover the cream of the crop.

I actually find the Bose NC to get in the way when I try to lie on my side.
Only works if you need your head face up or down.
Otherwise just use ear plugs.
Ear plugs and Bose headphones are you hear a bloody thing.

Was recently on SQ25 and since I couldn't fall asleep I decided to walk around the cabin. When I reached the back, I noticed that the temperature was significantly cooler. I think if I take SQ again in J on A380 I might go for row 96, rather than my usual preference to select something closest to the exit.
There are temp zones. Just ask them to make it cooler in yours.

There's another thing I noticed about row 96 (and other exit row or bulkhead rows), which is a wider and more spacious footwell. Interestingly, seatguru has no mention of that fact. I was blown away by the width of the seats when I was seated, but not sure I like calling on the flight attendant to switch from seat to bed and vice versa.

Don't sleep 24 hours before the flight and you'll be sleeping like a baby, I can only vouch for premuim J and F products.  talking from exprience.
Did that on my last trip from TLV via LHR. Crashed on both flights

Don’t sleep long the night before and try to be active before the flight. Worked like a charm for me last year when I had to take LY cattle class.

During my summer trip to Tokyo, all segments of the trip (except the last) was on lie flat business class. I slept ok during most of the flights. I had the best sleep on my last Econ red eye from LAX-EWR. I was so tired by that time, I had a beer and fell assleep. The next thing I knew, we were landing :-)

a healthy prescription 4+ oz. of  Scotch

It's definitely alcohol, tho not as good when you start drinking on the flight, it's gotta start in the lounge

I have borderline insomnia. Go look at my posting times and you will see. I can never fall asleep in bed at night. But when I am on an airplane, it's like magic. Even in economy, I fall right to sleep. I think it has to do with the lack of oxygen and the white noise of the plane.

Anyway, bottom line is that the best sleep that I ever get is only on planes. The other 300 nights of the year not so much.
