24 hours to decide- Amex platinum fee
« on: February 26, 2018, 01:16:16 AM »
I have 24 hours to decide what to do with my personal Platinum card, that I have for a number of years. Have they agreed to lower the fee for anyone here, when speaking to retention?

I can't justify paying $550 for it at this point. What are my best options to do with the card? I obviously don't want to lose my points.

1-Which card is the best to downgrade to (without a new credit pull) ?

2- Is there precedence for them agreeing to lower the fee for this year?

3- Once I close the card, will I ever be able to get a plat card with the bonus again? I probably opened this card 4-5 years ago.)

4- What approach should I take with them on the phone?

Thanks for any suggestions. I have less then 24 hours to decide, where I'm still eligible to get my fee refunded.

I never heard of AMX doing a pull on downgrade

I blv fee is sacred!! and will not lower - best to ask for a retention offer or goodwill of some kind

I was "told by CS can downgrade to gold - no fee first year

I would not worry now about getting card a 2nd time --I had the biz plat- cncld a yr ago -now have invite to upgrade my biz green to plat with no language

why not call AMX ask for retention or goodwill -if get a negative reply--ask all the cards you can downgrade too - and select what works best for you -but you must do something to SAVE THE POINTS and that should not be a problem

Thanks. What do you mean you have a new offer with no language? It doesn't say that you won't get the bonus if you ever had it?

Anyone else have any  other suggestions for me as well?

How should I approach it if they didn't budge on the fee? Are my 2 options only the gold and green card? Which one should I go for, and why?

I want up be prepared with my options when I call.

Thanks

Which one should I go for, and why?

Green is probably your best option, I don't think they'll waive the AF on gold card for first year.

What about Green? If they convert me to green there won't be an annual fee for the next year?
Do I stay with my card number, or do I get a new one? (Regardless, its not called a pull?)

I was told they do, always had a theory that the Gold personal and amex Plat have better offers then the other cards, but it seems I was wrong.
What's the cap for the AU on the Green any limit?

So basically 99 GE to... which equals 1k+

When adding an AU in your own name is it best to add to your own login or to make a new accnt?
