Vehicle registration expiring. Moving in a week

That's what it is.
Do I need to pay for a whole year's registration now in IL, when I'm planning to re-register it in Mass. next thursday?

Maybe have someone register your car for you wherever you are moving to, before you get there and overnight the paperwork to you

When I moved from NY to FL. After I got my FL registration I called up and cancelled my NY one. They sent me a prorated refund. Not sure the policy in IL though.

Congrats on the upgrade!

I went to the IL DMV. They let me extend my registration for 2 months for $16.

(Now, that works out to $72 per year. The price for a full year is $99.)

Indeed. Officially you're paying to defray the costs of processing your paperwork, so if anything it should cost more (proportionally) when renewing in two month increments.
